Crix Madine
------------------------
As a new recording solo artist for Obliq Recordings, this Colorado based
musician has something new to offer to the world of instrumental electronic
music. Right out of the gates he is offering up immense syncopated rhythms,
melodious basslines and layered counter-melodies. Crix Madine's music often
revisits the nostalgic world of early nineties electronic listening music
all the while fusing and warping it to his own modern style. Crix Madine's
inspirations for writing tracks tend to originate from his own visual
memories and experiences. He sees his music as a product of his own
environment. Much of his surroundings are mountainous terrain with white
capped peaks, alpine rocky slopes and forest. These elements of nature have
the same type of affect on him in much of the same way that Detroit techno
producers talk of influences of the urban experience and immersion in the
life of the city. In their case, the synthetic musical output parallels the
man-made environment of the city. But in the case of Crix Madine's output,
there is a contradiction existing between natural surroundings and the
making of electronic music. The juxtaposition of nature and synthetic sound
is his inspiration. So the challenge is translating visual physical space to
something more abstract such as musical composition.

When considering his production style he sees himself more as an assembler
and programmer than a musician. For him it is more about mastering the art
of sound construction and audio synthesis. Crix Madine sees it essential to
assemble a palette of basic constructs and elements allowing him to paint
the picture shifting his focus to composition, sound placement and layering.
In the end, there is a hope that some musical value was produced and
successful in provoking the senses and emotions of the listener.

Listening to the new works of Crix Madine is like coming out of the curve
from the inertia of electronic music of the past 30 years. He attributes his
musical inspiration to the likes of Daniel Miller, Kirk DiGiorgio, Richard
James, Depeche Mode, Black Dog and composer Phillip Glass.

Crix Madine recently did live performances in NYC and headlined the 2001
Atonal Festival in Denver. The Artist and Computer 3 (SiN) compilation
features a track from Crix Madine called "White Plume Mountain".

Current releases include the debut release on Obliq Recordings 7: series #1
(OBQ-04). Also look for tracks by Crix Madine on "Multicast Presents Further
Obliq Perspectives" on K2o Records Germany.

Kinotonik Pictures - Michael Lauter
------------------------
Kinotonik is a Colorado based film production company exploring transcendent
and transgressive realms of cinema. The company is responsible for the
emotionally and visually caustic 16mm feature film Persistence of Division,
which was awarded 'Best Experimental Feature' at the 1997 Denver Underground
Film Festival. Kinotonik is currently putting finishing touches on its
highly anticipated 35mm feature film Sleeping Pills.

For its collaboration with Crix Madine, Kinotonik's resident cinematographer
Michael Lauter will visually interpret the Obliq Recordings artist's music
and moods via projected 16mm film-loop triptychs. Lauter states that the
intent of these motion pictures is to "explore spatial-temporal paradoxes in
a meditative manner, thereby adding visual rhythms & harmonics to the
music."
