LAMPO is thrilled to present an uncommonly rare Chicago performance by
French drone-composer Eliane Radigue and the U.S. premiere of her work,
"L'Ile Re-Sonante."
Born in 1932 in Paris, Eliane Radigue studied electroacoustic music
under Pierre Schaeffer and Pierre Henry (1957-58) and later worked as
Pierre Henry's assistant at the Studio Apsome (1967-68). In the 70s she
developed the use of analogue ARP synthesizer and tape, which became her
signature. Over the past 30 years she has created a landmark series of
minimalist compositions -- thick layers of organic drones, warm
meditative pulses that envelop the listener.
Musical affinities shared with: LaMonte Young, Phill Niblock,
Charlemagne Palestine, Maryanne Amacher ...
Eliane Radigue works with electronic sounds on tape to create an
ambiance within which sound seems to move in a continual flow. Her
music has been described as "infinitely discreet ... next to which all
other music seems to be tugging at one's sleeve for attention." --
Michel Chion
"Eliane Radigue's music explores an expanded universe of which
technology is a part. She has discovered things in electronic sound
which powerfully affect our psyches." -- David Behrman
"Not to be missed!" -- LAMPO
Presented with support from French Cultural Services - Chicago.
