Bob Ostertag's work has often used field recordings
and other means of constructing powerful narratives
about sociopolitical issues. "Sooner Or Later" is
based on the actual sounds of a Salvadoran boy buring
his father, and it's harrowing, very difficult for me
to listen to. http://detritus.net/ostertag/

Perhaps more on the microsound tip, Terre Thaemlitz
deals with sexuality and gender throughout his work,
often in a similar way, but the work stands less well
on its own as a political narrative than Ostertag's:
half the "issue" is Thaemlitz's rather mandarin liner
notes.
