Adding to the din:
Antenna Farm + Main: AF_M (Staalplaat)
Nice improvised/edited digital concret. Very grainy
and textured, perhaps a nice if louder companion to
Main's outstanding TAU record.
Steffen Basho-Junghans: SONG OF THE EARTH (Sublingual)
Steffen Basho-Junghans: INSIDE (Strange Attractors)
Amazing solo steel-string guitar performances, in a
Basho/Kottke/Fahey mode, but absolutely
distinct...really incredible and more "microsound"
than you might imagine (check out the awesome first
track to INSIDE, with harmonics wafting up out of a
relentless muted string thump). The guy is genius.
Bernard Parmegiani: LA CREATION DU MONDE (INA-GRM)
DJ Bennie P is the Master of Reality. Is this already
out of print again? Surely not. Totally amazing, and
totally micro. I wish I knew how he made this concret
masterpiece. It was very early 80s, I think.
Unbelievable. I like DE NATURA SONORUM lots, but this
record takes the cake. Is that several minutes of
paper and plastic being wadded with contact mics
inside? Is it? Crazy. Xenakis is ok, but BP is the
master of all microsound, at least in the realm of
listenable work.
Polwechsel + Fennesz: WRAPPED ISLANDS (Erstwhile)
A fine improv session with Fennesz playing computer
and quite a bit of guitar with the famously quiet
Austrian group (including totally microsonic saxophone
god John Butcher). I just got this, so I don't know
how I feel about it yet, but it is most certainly
beautiful. Fennesz is quieter and Polwechsel is
louder....perhaps....Unique.
