hip hop has always been about using other people's music. taking a break and
repeating it is 'sampling,' whether you're using a turntable or a sampler...
so we're kind of just talking semantics here. oh, and kool herc wasn't the
only one doing it, either. its a natural outgrowth of dance parties with a
live MC. and the direct drive turntable didn't hurt.
