Not quite true. He was an *economist* for the French Socialist
government of Francois Mitterand. His book is a (Marxist) political
economy of music, and strikes me as pretty "leftist." :-) 

He also has a nice website: www.attali.com

A while ago he had an article in Wired, which was kind of a revisiting
of _Noise_. Anyone got that article anywhere? It would be worth posting
to the list, or at least posting a link.
