Thanks, Ian, for the clarification. It's been a long time since I've read
through, much less seen, "Hiroshima, Mon Amour," and I knew there was a
connection ... Alain Resnais. The ambient may owe more to Resnais'
sensibility, then.

I'm intrigued by mention of the Robbe-Grillet films, with which I'm
unfamiliar. A quick search at allmovie.com brings up some interesting
descriptions: "After an erotic nude posing before a total stranger, she is
kidnapped and chained by Arabs who pump her for information." Do you have
any recommendations?
