re: bookz
Also on the topic of books..
While staying with a friend in London a few years back I was introduced to
the writings of Hazrat Inayat Khan, the man credited with bringing sufism to
the west almost a century ago. Already a master of Indian classical music by
a young age, he relinquished a brilliant career to devote himself to the
spiritual path. A tireless teacher, writer, and lecturer, he travelled and
lectured almost continuously for seventeen years in the latter part of his
life.
The Music of Life is a broad collection of his teachings on sound. I could
go on for quite some time about the contents, but instead I will say that it
is an inspirational read from a man with a truely holistic vision. Plus,
there is no shortage of reading material online about this man, his books or
sufism for those interested.
...and to take the topic back to music, the works of various sufis such as
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Montreal's Mercan Dede have also been a true
source of inspiration in my life.
