personally, i have my doubts about the microkorg, although i didn't use it
yet myself.. looks more like another 'groove'-orientated toy (again)..

nice & inexpencive ways to 'analog-up' yr sound start with a cassette-deck,
wich can do much more for yr sound then you would think.. subtle and
creative use can do miracles..

or why don't you try things like a analog delays, moogerfoorgers, sherman
filterbanks or little cute elektro-harmonics filters.. i use this kind of
devices all the time toghether with my computer and digital (analog
modeling) synths, and in combination with loads of studiotime and some
inspiration the results can be quite amazing..

the 'nice & pretty cheap 2nd hand analog synths market' these days includes
the (amazing) korg mono/poly and some yamaha's (like the cs5)..

i've seen all of these around the $500 mark, and they're all pretty capable
of interesting results..

have fun,
grtz,

peter
