Re: [microsound] webmixing...great fun
Heretico: Thanks for turning me on to dyne.org... but not so much
because of MuSE. I was very psyched to see their cd based linux
distro... with a GUI! I don't know if anyone else out there is working
on such a project. It brings me back to my old Mac days when you could
run the full Mac OS off a CD-ROM (though without your personal settings
of course). I don't know if you can still do that with OS X, but you
certainly could NEVER do it with windows.
Oh and to eva-revox...this linux-on-a-CD at dyne.org (dynebolic) has
MuSE in it. So, you could actually download the file (it's 121 MB
though), uncompress it and burn it to a CD (it's an ISO once
uncompressed). Then reboot your computer and (as long as your BIOS is
set to boot from a CD first) you'll boot into a barebones, but graphic,
linux and you can run the MuSE program. Seems like a great way for
people to play around with linux without committing to installing it on
a drive.

P.S. before sending this I figured I'd try the dynebolic linux-on-a-cd
out. It's pretty cool... generally faster than my hardrive installation
of linux! However, I couldn't get the NIC card set right, so I couldn't
check out MuSE. I'm gonna write to them right now and see how to fix
that. But really, if you're interested in checking out linux but haven't
wanted to deal with installing it, this is great. Just be careful cuz
(at least on my linux box) I found I could access any directory on the
harddrive and delete anything (which makes it a great repair tool).
Oh, and my apologies if this thread is wandering off topic...
