I don't think there is such thing that could act as Live substitute but you might want to take a look at SpiralSynthModular (and SpiralLoops) <http://www.pawfal.org/Software/SSM/>. There's no VST on Linux but you prolly know LADSPA already <http://www.ladspa.org/>. Maybe they're not as pretty but they sound good. There's also loopool (a sister of LLOOPP for Max/MSP) built with pd which, while doesn't have as pretty face as Live, it offers quite a bit of flexibility <loopool.live.fm>.
