PROFILES
http://www.thing.net/~roddys/profiles.html
Tog (San Francisco/Tokyo) http://www.tognet.org
Stylistically polymorphous PwrBk duo Tog was founded by
Robert Duckworth (MFA Composition New Media/CalArts) and
Roddy Schrock (MFA Electronic Music and Recording
Media/Mills College) in NYC in 1999. After relocating to
Tokyo, the duo proceeded to perform and/or collaborate
with such international sound artists as Blevin Blectum,
Christophe Charles, Fred Frith, Kid 606, Otomo Yoshihide
and Atau Tanaka at a variety of venues around the world.
Tog
ユs recent festival appearances include the Deluxe
Improvisation Festival (Tokyo) and the CEAIT Festival
(LA). The duo
ユs Debut CD "An Unacceptable Color" (Solponticello
SP-005) was released Fall, 2000. Currently operating from
twin bases in the USA and Japan, upcoming plans include a
new CD release and a European tour, both slated for
Winter, 2003. Email: littleyellowdoll@xxxxxxxxxxx
Hypo (Paris) http://www.hypo.fr.st
Parisian avant-pop Adonis Hypo is currently wooing fans
worldwide with "Karaoke A capella" (Active Suspension
ACD05), his current release. This sardonic LP playfully
twists and strangles pop music with a falsely
heterogeneous collection of tracks recorded in
collaboration with Michiko Kusaki aka Anne La Plantine,
O.Lamm, Ddamage, sawako, Reiko Underwater, and Sonia
Cordier: Encre's live cello player. Hypo's songs are an
iconoclastic blend of bubble-gum pop bits, messy
clicks'n'cuts, noisy pop overtones, synthetic new wave
waste, plunderphonic hijacking and fainting melodies from
female vocalist that will make you want to get out of your
seat and dance! Email: mikemicrofono@xxxxxxxxxx
sawako (Tokyo) http://homepage.mac.com/oto_s
sawako is a Japanese sound artist currently living in
Tokyo. She has performed in Japan, America and Europe,
sharing the stage with Christophe Charles, Oval, V/VM,
Olivia Block, Yoshihiro Hanno and so on. Furthermore, she
has collaborated with sound-artists such as Ayacollet,
Hypo, Robert Duckworth and Andrew Deustch. In April 2002,
sawako received critical acclaim from the Italian magazine
BlowUp (although at that time she had no official
release). She makes soundscapes graced with beautiful
silences, freely employs the poetics of "petite" sounds,
mixer feedback, computer processing, field recordings and
the various sounds of her immediate environment. Almost
paradoxical in nature, sawako's music encompasses both
deep contemplation and an arbitrary randomness devoid of
intention. Email: sawakoluv@xxxxxxxxxxx
digital_gonzales! (LA)
http://www.calarts.edu/~bbreeck/digi-gonz.swf
In 2001 a crack commando PwrBk duo (Beck メHowlin' Madモ
Skywalker and Robert
メHannibalモ Duckworth) was sent to grad school by an
academic tribunal for a musical crime it didn't commit.
These men and their special friend from film-school Maile
Colbert promptly escaped from a maximum security art
school (CalArts) to the Los Angeles underground. Today,
still wanted by the Financial Aid Office, they survive as
soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else
can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire
digital_gonzales!! Email: littleyellowdoll@xxxxxxxxxxx
Maile Colbert (LA)
http://www.calarts.edu/schools/film/index.html
A film, video, and sound artist born in Houston, Texas.
Recently relocated to LA from Boston and now working
toward graduate degree in Intergrated Media/Film and Video
at CalArts. Colbert works with digital and analog sound
and visual techniques to create her pieces, with a special
concentration on the obsolete. Selected screenings,
performances, and exhibits are The New York Video
Festival, The Portland International Experimental and
Documentary Film Festival, The Knitting Factory in New
York and Hollywood, The Coolidge Corner Theater, Boston
University, and Jacques Cabaret in Boston. Email:
