RE: [microsound] Laptop questions

I use a Dell Latitude 800, with 500mb RAM & Pentium III 850mhz on Win2K. =
The biggest issue I've noticed is a loud static noise=20
when I am using the AC rather than battery power, once plugged into a =
sound board or mixer. What's mildly interesting
is that along with the static it sends out some sort of constant system =
noise that is really glitchy and changes with different
tasks or services running... If I open a program you can basically hear =
the nerves firing. Of course, it's been sampled
and used in audio work : ) But for live shows it wasn't really =
desirable. Running just on battery this doesn't occur.=20

A while back I tried running XP but found that SoundForge would not save =
sounds correctly (I ended up losing a lot
of work due to file corruptions) and found XP annoying in general.=20

I have not used a Mac (their web site rejected my credit rating in 15 =
seconds...) and am slowly working my way through RedHat,=20
so I can't really compare this environment to any other

Subject: [microsound] Laptop questions

Has anyone tried the new imac or heard of its audio and video =
performance=20
capabilities?

Also does anyone use a Dell laptop for live shows? I currently use an =
older=20
Sony Vaio but my use of effects is starting restrict what I can do with =
it.

I am trying to make a decision to stay PC or convert to MAC.

Any feedback on either would be great.
