Hi Store. I believe someone has already mentioned this but, I think the
way to go for mp3 labels that are low on funds and meg space, is to give
releases time limits (the equivalent of limited cd runs) or perhaps some
kind of rotation, etc. This obviously frees up space for new releases.
And as you mentioned, an additional idea would be to offer (or sell) hard
copies after (or before) a release ends it's tenure, provided of course,
the artists are ok with that.

Well, of course, when starting a label, there are certain things that one
has to build up gradually. To be honest, I'm just beginning to get to the
point with and/OAR where I can think about "paying" artists, not with
money, but with a percentage of copies made of their cdr releases.
Before, the policy has been like the one for the compilations I produce
for phonography.org, where I give each artist one copy and the extra
copies are available at cost. This, and the money from sales goes back
into the particular fund to recoup costs and to build for future
releases.
