It is true that there is a lot of music being released on cdr and that not
all of it is of exceptional quality. But it is also true that there is a
lot of music being released on cd, vinyl, or and other format, and not all
of it is of exceptional quality.

>>im glad someone pointed this out. "not of exceptional quality" is being kind. theres so much terrible music out there at ever increasing prices, no wonder people still want alternatives. theres so many advantages to cd-r labels: circumventing the major label/distribution process, lower costs, more control over yr product, potential to give every product a unique identity...

cd-r's are an extension of a DIY aesthetic that has just mutated through various media, cassettes, vinyl, now cd's. personally, i find it more rewarding to contribute a few dollars to someone who has put a lot of creative effort into the music & package rather than buying an anonymous factory made disc. its a great way for people to have their voice heard without having to go through a corporate machine or have to compromise their work, or just being able to get it out to people.

if you use the media itself to judge to quality of the work, you're missing the point.
