RE: [microsound] OT : (Was: it began in africa??)
Hasse;
This is extremely fascinating. Have you any knowledge of websites that
would cover these genres? I'd really like to look into them, to see
what's happening in Africa. My knowledge of new music there is woefully
bad.

As for electronic music coming out of SA, there's something called=20
Kwaito, sometimes spelled Quaito, which is a hybrid between hip-hop,=20
house/techno and,of course, african music. Kwaito is sung or "spoken"=20
in local language dialect and
the expression of the lyrics and musical content comes in several=20
flavors, from what could be labelled as popmusic to agitative=20
political statements. Other styles of SA "electronic" music are=20
Mbaqanga and Bubblegum. Given that this scene is quite big in SA I=20
would be very suprised if there were no experimentalists in there=20
doing interesting things, although I have no evidence of this=20
whatsoever.
/Cheers,
/Hasse
