Re: [microsound] Re: mp3 and CD-r labels

just a small comment.. and I'll go back to lurking...
For the last decade of doing my label (DOCTSECT) I've had so many
conversations about quality and so forth concerning CDRs..and ya know it's
funny how most of the people that had begun relations with me on the
forefront of belittled me about these CDR releases are now my biggest
customers.??.. I keep hearing on lists that music 'seems' to be so
disposable now-a-days, and I think that is just rubbish. It's no more
disposable now as it was on vinyl 30 (or longer) years ago. I think we've
all somewhat talked ourselves in to this issue really... when there realy
isn't an issue to begin with.

I mean think about it for a sec,,,, As long as there is something good
residing within the medium it just shouldn't matter. A medium is just a
medium. Granted,, that I'm now doing CDs,, but I still feel that a burned
CDR is just a deliberate and just a good as a stamped disc. The only thing
that seperates the two are that CDRs lack the commercial industries selling
standards for marketing. --Which is a mareting gimmick in and of itself.-- I
think we've all been taken on a little ride considering how when compared to
even the MP3..blahblahblah..we should all feel kinda silly. I'm sure we all
got tons. I mean shit..I would've never have known about raster-noton if it
wasn't for a low qualtiy mp3 of a Alva Noto track... or who BRAIN was for
that matter if it wasn't for a 47cent CDR.

If the label releasing the CDRs is of quality, then what's the difference?..
and yes I know the argument about the deeper imbedding of data via a CD and
so forth..blehh... but seriously... I think people that are concerned over
such a thing should realy get over themselves and should lighten up a bit.

BIG UPS TO CDRS!
