I'm working on a similar kind of software... but I don't think I will
gonna make it public :) since it's part of the artistic research that
I'm carry on.
Anyway just try to learn some compression basics (non-linear
quantization, discrete-cosine-transform) it's not so difficult.. if
you're into programming, csound or MAX-like environment you can try to
build something... otherwise a not-real-time version is to encode sounds
poorly and mix them/subtract them from the original sample.. (a free mp3
encoder is LAME encoder)... or for example nice processing can be done
with programs like cool edit: just have fun with the "noise reduction"
filter, but select "keep noise" as output result.
Anyway some very-unknown emergent artists like autechre or aphex twin
are already using this kind of "tricks" in some of their tracks :)
