Jon: regarding De Quincey, that's definitely my reading of his works as much
as anything; my dissertation in English Literature concentrated on De
Quincey. At any rate, if you're interested, there are really only two books
to check out: Confessions of an English Opium-Eater (1821) and Suspiria de
Profundis (1845). Both are excellent works of early dream research, and
probably topical as well in terms of their paranoia about Eastern cultures.
Now that I've been away from it for several years, I'm hoping to go back to
the dissertation subject this summer for the writing of some articles. I'll
let you know, in case you're interested.
