analog days

Has anyone read the new book Analog Days: The Invention and Impact of the
Moog Synthesizer? I will say, that on the whole, it is certainly worth
checking out. On the surface, it does tell the story of how the analog
synthesizer came into being from an engineering perspective. However, the
book is pretty interesting when it discusses how a market was created out
of thin air for an instrument that did not exist before--this certainly
plays out later with digital synthesis, but this is the origin. Lastly, I
think the book offers the best discussion when talking about the conflict
in the theory of performance and technological development between the
moog system (make the synthesizer more like a traditional keyboard
instrument) and the buchla system (create a radical new approach to
performance for a radical new instrument).

Definitely worth reading on your holidays. You can skip the section on
Keith Emerson.
