not so sure about the "avant garde" as that has both leninist and
modernist overtones for me. but microsound seems to be the music of
globalization, the sound of digital networks, the sonification of the
flow of bits of the speed of light. the best microsound, for me,
prophecies a critical globalization, a digital skepticism, something
like a counter-Empire, to use Hardt and Negri's term. But to continue
this kind of relevance, I think mcrsnd might have to think about
re-inventing itself aesthetically. I'm sure lots of people have made
this pun/point before, but there is a fine line between the aesthetics
of failure and a failure of aesthetics. Many aspects "glitch" are
becoming quite formulaic and static and in need of re-thinking.
