I've been using th iBook 500 since it came out and it's been very reliable. I'm adding a G4 12-inch now but keeping the iBook.

the diff between the iBooks and the PowerBooks varies but usually they have "last years" processor, bus-architecture and graphics processor. and may be heavier and bigger.
