My experience with the Max/MSP beta version is that it is a ways to
go. I attempted to do some patch work (mostly upgrades to
previous patches) in OSX and has some program crashes in the
process. The OS is rock-solid however and doesn't budge. I do
look forward to using max/msp in OS X, but there are definitely
some things to straighten out in the audio software realm before
that happens.

It is nice that PD (pure data) and many of the extensions for it are
readily available for Mac OS X. And it's free, so if you're in OS X and
you like max/msp, reaktor or audiomulch type software, go and get
it! Also very nice because it runs on the big three OSes, so if
you've got to do installation work, you have some options.
