Re: OS X
I've been using OS X since leaked in-house versions that I wasn't
supposed to have fell into my hands. It's made more progress in it's
short life than any other operating system I can think of, including
Linux. I now have my _mother_ using nothin' but OS X on two different
machines, much less my own 700MHz iBook setup. In all honesty, if
there's anything other than unported/unportable software (as in Kim's
situation) holding you back from switching, you've got technical issues.
It's a dream platform for those of us who want to do it all: code,
design, audio, even video. And there are no shortage of great audio
apps for it. My personal toolkit includes Ableton Live, a shareware
audio editor that beats 'em all called Amadeus II, the Max/MSP OS X
beta, and Traktor DJ Studio 2 (every now and then). And those of you
married to big sequencer packages now have Logic and Prol Tools.
Upgrading might be short-term expensive, but the stability and
efficiency of OS X will repay you in the long run.
I won't get into the geekier reasons why I love OS X, but feel free to
e-mail me any other questions. A lot of misinformation seems to be out
there, and I'm happy to dispell it (or put you in touch with an Apple
software engineer I know who could).
