North Korea is not going to start a nuclear conflict unless the US
carries out a "pre-emptive" attack. They have no reason to. But if
there's any lesson to be drawn from the attack on Iraq, it's that if
you're an international pariah, you SHOULD have nukes. It's called
establishing credibility. Get enough of them, and you might even join
the UN Security Council. I'm less worried about a North Korean attack
then I am about this screwed up American administration--and I live in
Seoul.
The other lesson to be learned from this war is that you should never
under any circumstances submit to weapons inspections. Even when the
chief weapons inspector announces that a "substantial piece of
disarmament" has been undertaken, it doesn't prevent a war. You're
better off simply going to war from the start and keeping and using all
of your weapons. Weapons inspections simply softened up Baghdad's
defenses for this attack.
So not only has this adminstration completely failed in diplomacy, it
has also completely undermined any authority possessed by the single
international body having widespread credibility. The clear solution
for most countries in the world is to get your own nukes before the US
attacks you--or renames your food.
