Carrying a PowerBook (which I don't have) or a video camera are not options
in my case.

The Creative Nomad 3 tickled my curiosity. I did a quick search, and it
seems that there is no way to adjust the recording levels: big minus
point... probably even a showstopper.

I know that the device supports MP3, WAV and WMA, but it's not clear whether
compression is used when recording... A quick search did not reveal
information on that aspect of the device.

Thanks for the input, BTW and thanks to everybody else who contributed to
the thread so far.
