DAT Politics are the laptop trio of Claude Pailliot, Ga=EBtan Collet and
Vincent Thieron. Hailing from the industrial French town of Lille, DAT
Politics offer a refreshingly anarchic approach to the often
over-intellectualized pseudo-genre that is "laptop music." As unafraid of
utilizing pop structures as they are with totally fucking said structures
up, DAT Politics' albums dismantle disarmingly sweet melodies by plying the=
m
with hyper-edited shards of abrasive noise; the end result is sweet and
scary, like the candy stuffed with razor blades you Mom always told you to
watch out for on Halloween. In between traveling the world with their chea=
p
portable computers, DAT Politics also run the record label Skipp, which has
released albums by the likes of Goodiepal and Aelters. This Soundscrape
offers the rare opportunity to catch a U.S. appearance of DAT Politics: be
sure not to miss it!

The hyperactive cut-and-paste aesthetic of New York's Donna Summer (n=E9 Jaso=
n
Forrest) is so attention-deficient it would make John Oswald's head hurt.
Drawing from a massive variety of sound sources ranging from the Go-Go's to
King Crimson to Hall and Oates, Donna Summer's music is born from the same
omnivorous musical taste that he displays on his WFMU show, Advanced D&D.
Donna Summer's debut album, "This Needs To Be Your Style" (Irritant) kicks
out the fucking jams like a blow to the head, and it's starting to bring
Summer the respect he deserves. But don't worry: Donna Summer may use a
computer to piece together his off-kilter splattercore constructions, but
he's a rock'n'roll artist at heart: he's sampling Supertramp out of love,
not condescension. His Soundscrape performance promises to be a true
ear-cleansing experience you can't afford to miss. Plus he's gonna screen a
video too!

Roddy Schrock is a composer currently living in San Francisco. He began
music composition studies with Mark Applebaum while still a student of
sociology. He later relocated to Tokyo where he formed the new media duo To=
g
with Robert Duckworth. The duo has shared the stage with such international
sound artists as Fred Frith, Blevin Blectum, Atau Tanaka, and Otomo
Yoshihide at venues around the world. Schrock's most recent solo
performances have included international debuts of new works at the Kennedy
Center for the Performing Arts and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art i=
n
collaboration with composer Randy Nordschow. Schrock recently released the
CD "Lexivexicon, a new collection of visceral electronic music" and
completed a national Japanese tour with Tog in
December of 2002. Future plans include a year of study in Europe after whic=
h
he will pursue a Ph.D. program in America. Schrock's more formal
compositional studies have included work with Yuji Takahashi, Alvin Curran,
Christian Wolff, and Pauline Oliveros. He is currently working towards
fulfillment of the Master of Fine Arts requirements in the Electronic
Music/Intermedia program at Mills College in Oakland, California.
