Your best bet would probably be to take the train from Berlin, as this 
would make for the shortest possible train ride from a major 
metropolis.  If you wish to see more of Poland, you might want to fly 
to Warsaw, although that would make for a train trip at least twice, if 
not three times as long.  Also, taking a train from Berlin would be 
shorter than a train from Amsterdam, since traveling to Szczecin from 
Amsterdam would involve a train switch in Berlin anyway.
