Experimental Music and Film Festival

-Intersect has been a showcase for experimental music, film, spoken word,
dance and performance art since 1994. The first Intersect was a joint
venture between Dan Plunkett/ND magazine, Koop Radio and sound artist
Michael Northam. Among the first musical participants in Intersect 1 were
Germany's 'The Factory Press' and Austin's own 'Stars of the Lid.' Over the
years, Intersect has focused on bringing known, unknown or just plain
underexposed artists from the ever evolving Austin experimental underbelly
to center stage, providing journeys through sound and vision that will
certainly not be heard playing on local radio or be seen on MTV.

-Here's a a brief run down of who will be at this year's Intersect showcase.
Primordial Undermind goddess VANESSA ARN will manipulate live electronics,
with a video display by local film maker Jon Ausbrooks.

Gates Ensemble founder and New Music Co-op man, BILL THOMPSON will be
performing a piece featuring his mind warping live mixing of field
recordings and electronic sounds.

Former Austinite, now Dallas work-a-day wage slave, SHAWN MCMILLEN, will
present a piece utilizing 6 boomboxes with prerecorded synthesizer sounds, a
live Harmonium accompaniment plus a homemade film collage. Shawn is infamous
for having recorded a CD under the name Ash Castles of the Ghost Coast, and
more recently has performed under the name Iron Kite.

Boston, Mass. resident LIZ TONNE will be here in a very special, ultra rare
appearance, performing extended vocal techniques that will redefine your
concept of what a human voice can do (by the way, Liz is a frequent musical
partner with sax maniac, David Gross,who was here in town a few weeks ago).

Another Dallas resident, Elevator Bath owner/operator, and Intersect 5 past
participant, COLIN ANDREW SHEFFIELD, will once again be bringing his sampler
and loop madness to the vast corners of your twisted mind.

JACOB GREEN, who is also a Gates Ensemble regular and everyone's favorite
record store chair moistener, will be doing a cool interactive sound and
video display, that will involve the audience's participation in certain
segments.

Working in a turbulent nexus of sound, video and choreographed movement,
JOSH RONSEN treads a fine line between cold, rational thought and the
glorious irrational immersion into the momentary flow of being. His work
with Frequency Curtain, the Gates Ensemble and brekekekexkoaxkoax spans
numerous approaches and instruments and always encompasses the unexpected
and inexplicable.

Intersect 2, 3 and 4 vet and current Frequency Curtain member voted most
likely to be wearing a hearing aid before he's 50, RICK REED, will be
presenting a new original video piece with live shortwave and sine wave
sounds.

There will also be a special intermission show featuring a Butoh dance
display with live guitar provided by Kurt Newman.  The event will be hosted
by San Antonio voice man and sometimes Charles Bukowski act- alike, Kevin
Bel.
