top cellular 40

one interesting repercussion may be how the limited frequency bandwidth
of cell phone audio (both in digital transmission/compression and
dismally cheap speaker construction) may end up shaping the aesthetics
of pop music, in the same way that pop tunes are compressed and mastered
for 'punchiness' for FM radio and boom boxes nowadays... bj=F6rk has said=

that the tiny cheap speakers built into her laptop had influenced her
music production on her last album. that said, there is no reason to
think that the reverse may happen: a cell phone/mp3 hybrid (which
already exist) with a headphones out of comparable quality to say, an
iPod. this may have the effect of rendering standard telephone voice
conversations at higher quality, which would be amazing... the york
voice response enrollment system would have to re-record their standard
spiel at 24bit 96k so that we can all be aggravated in high fidelity!
just think of telemarketers calling during dinner in dolby digital 5.1
surround:)
