Re: droplifting

droplifting is indeed a fascinating practice and it goes along
with a certain culture of dis-information which, personally speaking,
is much more stimulating than common everyday "information" with which
we're bombarded continuously.

it forces you to actively research, while questioning yourself
on various aspects (including yourself).

dis-information can (but not necessarily does) produce more information
simply feeding on personal curiosity: one has to obtain an overall
(redundant) knowledge to resolve the doubts that the input has aroused.

however, here in rome, and in many other places in italy, droplifting cd-rs
is in practice impossible: the few stores which have good music usually work
in a simple, unattackable way: the don't have any cds displayed.

if you're looking for something, you either ask the owner, or you look it up
on a computer database which is there for your consulting.

once you've chosen then the man gets it for you in some other room/basement.

so in the end there's no place where to drop the cd-rs!!!

some other places have the photocopies of the leaflets displayed,
so in the end its the same: no place where to camouflage cd-rs.

(actually in this case, if one used a plastic bag instead of a jewel
box, it might work. still the rigid cd-r would somehow stand out in the
middle of these photocopies)

of course one doesn't need to droplift only in music shops. actually it is
much more confusing and fascinating to find an object completely out of
context.
(a nice cd-r placed between perfumes, or underwears)

so droplifting can of course be made in practically all its forms.

but the specific case mr.cascone suggested, here would be very hard.

cheers to all.
