Hi. Sorry - I was sleeping off the post-release depression. :-)

My friend Ben is correct. The soon-come 4.3 release for OSX
is about as close a duplicate to the Windows version as you can
imagine - or vice versa, actually.

If you're an OSX person, the one thing you'll probably notice
rather quickly is the new cross-platform way of specifying
files. The OSX version will still read and resolve old pathnames
(MyDisk:Folder:AnotherFolder), but you should prolly switch
to the Xplatform version for maximum cross-platform compatibility.

You can just save stuff as text and it ought to just open - provided
that you're not using any third-party objects or objects that don't
exist in Windowsland (OMS stuff for your old legacy patches).
There's even a new message to Max that lets your patch figure out
what platform it's running on.

Apart from that, it should just work. We've also released a new
version of the SDK which should encourage people who've written
third-party objects to port theirs (as is clearly the case, it seems).

My suggestion would be that anyone desiring a bit more enlightenment
could take a look at the Windows FAQ, or - for the "hands on* type -
download the demo and fool with it. My sense is that the software
one chooses is a complex coctail of sensibility, temperament, ego,
and economics. People do best when they've got the basic stuff
they need to make up their minds. You can already check out Pd,
and now you can have a month's worth of heavy-duty tire-kicking
in the Max world.

I'll leave the Pd/Max mudslinging to the True Believers of whatever
stripe. Why deny people their favorite irritainments? I'd rather spend
my time thinking about Max 5. Actually, I'm adding some new stuff
for radiaL.

I'd just also point out that those of you who rashly made those
bets with me that a Windows port would never happen will be
standing me that pint at the time of my choosing.

PS. As with the other projects we're working on, we're not announcing
dates for software releases until they're ready. The OSX 4.3 will be
a *lot* sooner than later, though.
