hotline v. single protocol server/client structures

i'm not very hot on hotline, but my experience has been that running
multiple clients for multiple protocols eats more memory and cycle than a
single faintly craptastic client. that's why i say it's better.

and setting up multiple services on a server that you have no direct access
to is somewhat of a "not fun" experience...
