if you're referring to MIDI then you are correct: music is data
transfer...but if you're referring of the chain of acoustic energy
transferred from musician to listener then the Shannon model does not
work...instrumental music has no meaning in and of itself and hence meaning
can not be transferred...sung lyrics are a different matter all together...
Reception Theory uses a better model...one that works on cultural
expectations and pooled knowledge...
