no hate-mail intended...
but, first things first, i like pop music in its broadest sense: bacharach,
esquivel, the joe meek factory, the beatles, xtc, perrey & kingsley,
matthew herbert, j-pop and so on.
as for me, the most important thing in a composition is the relationship
between sound, time and space. i mean: the very core of a musical
composition, whether it is electronic, microsound, pop, easy listening, is
the way a sound event is placed in time and space. under this perspective
many pop songs (of the aforementioned people) are - in all respect -
stronger and much more interesting than the average so-called
experimental/microsound stuff. have you ever heard such a sense of
structure and proportion in a, say, francisco lopez piece?

concerning 12k, it's one of the few labels in the electronic field which is
still interested in researching new and different ways of working and
experimenting with sound, whether acoustic/analogic or electronic/digital,
always with very interesting results (see the latest "e/a/d/g/b/e"
compilation). so, heads-up to taylor deupree and his courage, i wish him a
happy future for happy. well done!

and, yes, "snowbird" by piana has already been published on cubic music for
the japanese market. and what a wonderful record it is! along with those of
kazumasa hashimoto ("yupi" on plop) and world's end girlfriend ("farewell
kingdom" on third ear recordings).

and while we're at it (cubic music/fabric), since some people on the list
have been asking lately, i want to assure you all that our second album
"rjctd :: nw" as z_e_l_l_e will be out on fabric. it's just a bit delayed,
while fabric website will be renewed and release news willl be updated soon.

greets :: nic
