yeah i did a thing this summer using a shoutcast, but this was audio only 
i think midi across the net might have some latancy issues ;>P 
it worked ok , it was the french placard streaiming festival, and a few of us jammed together, it was a bit random, packet switching ain't the fastest method, and i think shoutcast leaves gaping great holes in windows systems (or at least icecast does), but if you got nothing to hide it don't matter...
