I always thought the most interesting thrust of McLuhan's many faceted thinking
was his examination of the breakdown and dispersal of authority following the
invention of the Gutenberg press.

Is the net working the same way by decentralizing knowledge? Or, is it so handy
for spy ware, as to facilitate the extension of authoritarian regimes? Are
those "off grid" the ones we now fight, and are we at a disadvantage because of
our visibility and their anonymity?
This does pertain to art, as the points made by Kim and Tobias illustrate.
Authority certainly pertains to the art world.
