[microsound] Microsound TWiki + open source content
the word from Andy is that we'll have a TWiki server running on the
hyperreal server in a week or so...after it is up and running I want to
spend some time poking around and setting things up...I imagine things
should be able to go live soon after Jan 1st...
==========================
- so what the hell is TWiki anyway?
==========================
well first check out:
http://www.twiki.org
to RTFM
but in a nutshell: its a web server (it runs as a cgi script on a real
server such as Apache) that will allow list members the ability to create or
edit content directly from their web browser and without having to use html
(you can still use html tags if you want to)...you can add pages, files,
links, etc...again, check out the twiki.org site for more info
you have a new .mp3 you want to share? put it up on the TWiki server...have
some graphics for the new microsound project you want feedback on? put it up
on the TWiki server...want to start a remix project on a recent CD you've
released? TWiki...you get the point...
also, we may be able to migrate from Hotline to TWiki for all future
projects ..not sure if it will have ALL of the features of Hotline e.g., we
might have chat but that might need a plugin for that feature (I still have
some reading to do)...
*********************
IMPORTANT - IMPORTANT
*********************
what is most valuable about the TWiki server is that it creates a platform
for 'open source content'...this is something I want to bring to peoples
attention and perhaps start a dialog about...here are some opening questions
to start chewing on:
- what is the status of content placed on the TWiki server?
- open? with some rights? copyrighted?
- should we adopt the Creative Commons License for our content?
- should it be left up to each individual? if so, how do we police this? and
who?
INFO:
- the Microsound TWiki server will be set up in the following manner:
unblocked list members are the *only* ones who will be able to create/edit
content while anyone who has a URL to the various pages can view them...
OK I'm sure other issues will come up but I wanted to start a dialog now
before we set up the TWiki server...
