American net.artist Rick Silva, a.k.a Cuechamp, is offering his ?Gnu School
Mix,¹ a frenetic commingling of select top-forty pop and hip-hop, for free
download. In the spirit of the open source operating system that is its
namesake, the 35-minute mp3 begins with a short ode to DIY production.
Originally aired on Barcelona's Open Air Radio, the piece continues Silva's
re-tooling of sound-data, a field he also explored in his hypermedia work
?Swound,¹ archived in the Rhizome.org ArtBase. Perhaps drawing on his
background in film studies, Silva treats sound as a cinematic medium: expect
