Re: [microsound] SCREAM Festival?

I don't see that he is comparing the understanding of art with the understanding of progamming, or making them exclusionary/opposed positions. For his part, John Simon was one of the first people to treat software creation as an artistic process, and software itself as an artistic product (or whatever word you want to use instead of product - object, whatever). Programming as art still isn't taken very seriously in the larger world of art... and now that the internet bubble has burst, being a programmer isn't even as cool as it once was... alas... :)

Wow that's quite a quote...for me, it reads the exact opposite of the way it
probably intends. Who can be so confident that the Modernist project is
completely bankrupt...and why should "understanding programming" be any more
or less amazing than "understanding how to make art"?
