Oops, sorry. OS X's sound isn't quite the same as you might find with Linux or Solaris. It basically means you have to access it through the API, which is why programs like Audiohijack are so useful.

The play command I mentioned is from sox:

Anyway, here's the score to my latest track:

play -f s -c 2 -s w -r 11025 -t raw /usr/bin/play

Play, playing play, more a blip than a symphony.
