I've been totally blown away by Richard Francis (aka Eso Steel)

You have good taste Howard. Richard does fine work. I think he uses just his
own name now. The (last?) eso steel 12" called "Technology of Sleep" is
good. He also did a recent 7" with Tetuzi Akiyama that is really nice. From
what I know, he works largely from field recordings that are given fairly
simple processing in the computer. He's also highly knowledgeable about the
physics of sound. I made some recordings with him in 2002 and had him as a
houseguest. He's a good guy to top it off.
