[microsound] Re: Looking for articles about music & technology. Also digital music and education.
Hi,
you should check out the book "Computer Based Creative Music Making: Young
People's Music in the Digital Age". It's written by Göran Folkestad and has
the ISBN 9173462896. Maybe it's a bit hard to get a hold of it, but you
should be able to get it thru Gothenburg University (http://www.gu.se) or
some swedish bookstore like Akademibokhandeln
(http://www.akademibokhandeln.se). I'm sure you'll find it valueable, as it
also references many other books on the subject.
Well, this is my first post, so I feel like an introduction could be in
place. First of all, I wanna say that english isn't my native language, so
please forgive my abuse of it (bad grammar, spelling etc.). I live in
Sweden - would love to get some contact with other sweds, I've seen some on
the list - and is currently studying cultural studies at Stockholm
Univeristy. My main intrest is music, and I just "found" post digital music
a couple of months ago. I've been listening mainly to "electronic listening
music/braindance" before, but was stunned when I found post digital music.
The last couple of years I've started to dislike braindance; it's been
getting to "messy" for my taste.
I've played around a little bit with software, but haven't actually done
something I would state as "mine" (read "good enuff to be willing to stand
up for"). Maybe I could blame this on lack of education, as I've never
played any instrument, or maybe I'm just lazy. Right now I'm looking into
Csound, and would love to maybe get my hands wet on some microsound project
of yours (hey, we all need learn, and maybe I could get a tip or two by
actually doing/sharing something).
I've found much joy in the list, even though I agree that the "promotional
to 'philosophical' ratio" is rather high. Well, I'm gonna stop babbling,
just wanted to say "hi" (and post that book tip!) :)
