RE: [microsound] the landscape(s) of microsound

From: Glenn Bach <gbach@xxxxxxxxx>
I have a question for the group. How many of you practitioners are influenced or inspired by a sense of place in making your work?

I think it's hard not to be creatively influenced by your surroundings. For years I lived in different areas in downtown LA and then Hollywood and I kind of thrived off of ugliness, concrete, smog, and the energy of the city. About a year and a half ago I moved way out of town, up in the hills near the ocean and suddenly my creativity dropped way off. I'm only now getting back into the swing of things and it feels like I had to sort of re-position myself in the world. It's like I had to completely relearn how to find creative energy in my environment. I'm not sure if that's exactly what you mean though.
