That reminds me of a different conversation on the electro-music forum. 
We were discussing the distinctions between sub-culture and
counter-culture.  I came up with the term aux-culture to reference any
division of a macro-culture.  Also, counter means opposed and sub has the
unfortunate connotation of inferiority.  Seeing as wheelchairs are such
fine instruments perhaps they should be referred to as aux-bicycles. 
Would cars then be counter-bicycles?
