[microsound] copyright -- Steven Shaviro's _Connected_

yoT,

All this talk reminded me of Steven Shaviro's new book, _Connected, or what
it means to live in the network society_ :

Shaviro makes some excellent arguments, including some dire predictions as
to what may happen if music copyright is extended to writing and thought.
The consequences would be the illegality of all citation--basically the
shutdown of all academic writing, nevermind writing in general. This is
already an issue in some journals (quoting works, showing photos).

What makes Shaviro's book a MUST READ is that he works through distopyian
sci-fi (including KW Jeter's _NOIR_, and works by Samuel R. Delaney),
electronic music, psychoactives (including Ecstasy and LSD), and great
writers and artists such as Burroughs, Bataille, Deleuze and Guattari and
Warhol.

AND the entire thing is written in aphorisms -- byte-sized chunks.

Here he is:

& his blog -- daily reading:

Of note, in the next issue of CAPITAL there will be a full interview with
Shaviro on his book in the Nettropolis column. online --

target cities.

best,
