Anthony Pateras & Robin Fox

The duo of pianist/composer/improviser Anthony Pateras and computer
based sound artist Robin Fox has been in a state of constant
development for around three years. Early experiments with found and
constructed instruments morphed into complex explorations of real-time
piano and analog synthesizer processing and now the duo perform with a
unique combination of analog electronics, microphones, objects and
laptop.

They have developed a reputation in Melbourne for delivering high
powered and exciting performances that focus on spontaneous composition
and the real time processing of improvised sonic objects. These
transformations influence future actions resulting in a generative or
recursive compositional feed-back loop. Recent performances have
explored the potential of vocal sounds through various amplification
systems (dirty CB mic, digestible transducer), analog electronic
devices (synthi AKS), music boxes and raw electronic signals. Wherever
possible the duo paly in multi-channel configurations that allow for
real-time diffusion.

Recent performances include the Sydney Opera House for What is Music?
2002, support for Kevin Blechdom at Electrofringe 2002 and a world tour
covering Western Europe, New York and Tokyo in early 2003. Their work
has been broadcast locally, nationally and internationally and was
included in the recent Variable Resistance showcase of Australian sound
art. The duo’s debut release Coagulate has been well received described
as “…a bold and challenging exercise in electroacoustic improvisation…”
 (Stylus Magazine).

Alex Davies

Alex is currently working in the areas of sound and time-based image
production. His work spans a diverse range of media including film,
network, realtime audio-visual manipulations  and responsive
installations. His current practice is based around the development of
evolving audio-visual installations in which individuals and dynamic
environmental factors shift the conditions of a controlled space. He
has produced and presented work both nationally and internationally
including recent collaborations with Time’s Up (AT). He has released
multichanel audio work on the Anchortronic DVD through Staalplaat and
recently performed the work in Stralsund, Germany. For more information

Julian Knowles

"Julian Knowles, having a subdued, fun time behind his laptop, great to
listen to. He takes us on a wild ride, from the gritty atmospheres of
contemporary digital soundscapes....then sheets of aggressive,
sparkling, scintillating neo-electro-acoustics, asymmetrically
off-the-beat drum’n’bass, fluttering bass-drones, and more..."
[Jonathan Marshall, 'What is Music?' live review, RealTime Magazine]

Julian Knowles is a composer/perfomer and audio artist working with new
and emerging technologies. His practice draws heavily on varied and
eclectic musical history taking in cinematic sound, electro-acoustic,
acousmatic and concrete musics and contemporary pop music, resulting in
a personalised sonic language which is exploratory, yet recognises its
roots in historical traditions. It challenges the arbitrary
distinctions between sound, noise and music and attempts to reveal the
inherent musicality in so-called non-musical materials and audio
detritus. Since the early 90s, Julian’s work has made use of spatial
audio systems and in the past 5 years has located itself within the 5.1
surround audio standard. Julian has undertaken a number of tours
through the USA, the UK, Korea and Australasia. He is Head of the
School of Contemporary Arts at the University of Western Sydney.

Sam Smith

Sam Smith is an audio and video artist based in Sydney. His live sound
incorporates the intersection of treated or untreated inprovisational
piano with electronics.

Daniel Heckenberg

Daniel Heckenberg has worked with interactive video and spatial audio
over the past five years in performance, research and development.  He
is currently concerned with  complementary audio visual synthesis
techniques with rich opportunities for real-time performance.
