[microsound] silliness: was Re: [microsound] audio input in PC laptops again

Seems to be a feature of music production that we are always being exhorted
to buy the latest piece of shit because you won't be able to hear a
micro-milli-nano-hz of noise that may occur in an otherwise faultless recording. And of
course it will have so many new features.
Well of course you will have to buy shitloads of new RAM but that's coming
down in price all the time, then you will need the latest Windows version (of
course you can upgrade) but then sadly you'll need a new sound card, which won't
then talk to some of your plug ins and so on....
But you'll be able to make a perfect track, once you've earnt the dosh to pay
for it, gone out and bought having thoroughly researched it, installed it,
got over the problems, downloaded the relevant patches, learnt how to use all
"the amazing new features". By this time there will be an even better upgrade
along. So fuck it, use what you can get hold of. Luckily for us there are the
anoraks who like to upgrade and upgrade to brag to their mates and the
mainstream pop industry who spend a fortune on improvements that most of their dopey
punters won't even notice (well, with the exception of Autotune). These 2 groups
keep the money coming in for developing the products we may eventually decide
to own, they also regularly discard some quite useable kit which is suited to
our purposes.
