framework - phonography/field recording; contextual and decontextualized sound activity
presented by patrick mcginley
this edition was meant to feature a live performance by dublin-based polish sound artist pawel grabowski. unfortunately he wasn't able to make the journey to london this time, so we had to postpone - we'll let you know when we can get his set rescheduled. this did, however, give us a chance to start catching up on the backlog of material we've got at the moment, including the phonographer's union cd made from their live session on sonarchy radio, recent releases from the ever-expanding catalogue of free mp3 label stasisfield, and a look at the amazing environmental sound works of david dunn from the 70's and 80's as documented on the double cd retrospective music, language and environment on innova recordings. we finished off the show with another track from an innova disc: stilling time is an collection of traditional vietnamese music as recorded in the field by philip blackburn. this is an amazing disc of extremely beautiful recordings, and, while we tend not to play captures of musical performance on the show, i couldn't let this one go by without a nod. in any case, the disc's last track is a collage of sounds captured around hanoi, a bit more fitting to our format, and it gave me the opportunity to give it a high recommendation.
again, we are always looking for material for the show, whether raw field recordings, field recording based composition or introduction submissions. send material, released or not, on any format, to the address below. we are also hoping to have live performances as often as possible, so if you are in or passing through london please get in touch!
