just one more thing i wanted to add
Your idea that minimalism can be a consequence rather than a goal is
very interesting and useful. I am thinking in particular of the silent
works of Cage.... in these works, the objective was not to be minimal
per se, but to focus on removing the composer's intention from the work
and engaging the audience in the concept of all sound in a musical
framework. The result clearly had a very minimal quality but the
compositional intent was not 'minimalism'.
